it would DE1, and this is not a race. You are not being timed. You are there to learn how to drive your car FAST and safe. In DE1 you will have an instructor riding with you all day. You will also have to spend sometime in the class and download.

When I fix my suspension in 17 years, I promise I'll give DE1 a shot. I do want to race my car.

every1 starts in HPDE 1 and you get an instructor with you all day. DE 2,3,4 you're on your own out there. The many difference is where you are allow to pass on the track....you should probably ask mando or the guy driving the type R

Hpde (High Performance Driving Education) is a fun way to learn about your car and yourself in a safe enviroment.
There are a four hpde groups that you can progress through to eventually get your comp. license and continue on to race group should you choose it.

Hpde 1: Beginner

You are given class room time in which you learn the flags and what they mean, lines on track you should be aiming for, and what to do incase something happens. An instructor with years of experience rides with you all day long with you. He gives constant feedback, and advice on what you an do to improve. This is a great opportunity to learn alot about what your car can do. It teaches you alot of car control and you have fun in the process.
Alot or if not everything you learn on track can be applied to street driving such as emergency incidents.

Hpde 2
In this run group you ride solo and are given the same passing rules as hpde 1 which is limited to certain areas of the track that are "safer" to pass in should you need to. This group allows you to go on track and try and apply what you learned in hpde 1 on your own.

Hpde 3

This group is a little faster paced in which you are allowed more passing zone. This group starts to improve your driving lines and braking zones. Faster cars, better drivers makes you try harder. (It did for me )

Hpde 4

This group is the last group before race group.
The drivers in hpde 4 are good, they know what they are doing and they carry alot of speed. They worked thier way up the ranks and they are good drivers. Passing is allowed anywhere on track as long as its "safe". Also in hpde 4 they run a group called TT which means time trials.

Also CRA/NASA also host the surgeusa.com Time Attack. In order to participate you must be in hpde 4, or hpde 3 and be invited to run.

This is one of the main reasons I think we should all give it a shot at some point.

The main thing I took from CRA/NASA is always be aware of your surroundings.
It teaches you to look a few cars ahead, behind, and on the sides at all times.
After a while it becomes habit and you do it without thinking.
Talk to monkypirate how we used that technique to avoid a 5 car hit on the LA freeway.

You'll also learn that a dead petal is not only for decoration, 10 and 2 isn't for old people, and proper posture.
